Last Saturday morning, August 29th, the ladies of the congregation met for a delicious brunch, and also spent time planning and casting vision for the upcoming church year. Plans for a new Ladies Bible Study were discussed with three options of study to choose from. It was decided that we would participate in a study by Nancy Leigh DeMoss called Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free. This study will begin sometime this month.
Many thanks to all of those who participated in the Saturday's Ladies Brunch. Thanks also to those who prepared the yummy food and helped to clean up and decorate. Thank you especially goes to Terry Cunningham for lending all of the decorations, serving pieces, vases and dishes to make our meal a beautiful success. |

The Adult 2 small group sponsored the 2009 Pinewood 500 on May 24th. A few weeks earlier the group set up the track at the Cars on the Square community event as a form of advertising. Many children had fun racing cars throughout the day. In fact, several grown men enjoyed racing the cars. All were invited to this years Pinewood 500.
We did have several guests join us for the race despite the holiday weekend and bad weather. There were a total of 22 cars entered, and the racing was a blast! During an intermission, Pastor Joey encouraged the members to utilize the business card tool to invite friends and neighbors to events like this one. He also shared the gospel using that same tool which has 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 printed on the back.

On Sunday, May 24, 2009, David Kobeck resigned the position of Music Minister at Southside Baptist Church. Of course, after 15-years of service, David and his family will be deeply missed. David first came to Southside as the church pianist in 1994, and in 2002 was asked to fill both roles: pianist and Music Minister. Throughout all of these years, Jennifer has served alongside him playing the organ and singing when needed. We at Southside have benefited greatly from their musical talent and from his submission to the Spirit's leadership in planning services. June 14, 2009, will be their last service with us. While we will certainly miss their talents for playing and planning and miss their company, we will not miss the friendship and love we share for one another; for that is unchanged. As Jason Cherry, Chairman of the Personnel Committee, stated in response, "David, we thank you for being a beacon of faithful service as you have led us in songs of worship for many years 'constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ' (1 Thess. 1:3a). Though you are departing from this local gathering of believers, our unity and fellowship with you and your family continues; for 'there is one body and one Spirit... one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.' (Eph. 4:4-6)." It is our prayer that David and Jennifer continue to be used of God to lead His people to worship in Spirit and in Truth through the God-honoring use of their talents. We pray that their shared ministry will be graciously empowered by the Spirit and serve as a blessing to God the Father as they continue to exalt the Son, Christ Jesus. May grace and peace be with them always.
