Pastor Joey and his family came to Southside in May of 2001. He had previously served as a Youth Minister while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Auburn University and again while studying at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Pastor Joey is a loving husband and father whose family is his top priority. Understanding that one of the Biblical qualifications of an Elder is that he must manage his own household well, he strives to insure that his family is not neglected in his ministry. He and his wife, Brooke, married on September 14, 1996, and now have two children, Andrew and Alora.
Pastor Joey is a reformed Pastor with a commitment to leading a reforming church. In the vein of King Josiah, Pastor Joey's calling is to lead the church to rediscover the Word of God as authoritative and sufficient. He understands reformation to be a long process of corporate sanctification requiring forbearing patience and longevity from the leadership.
Pastor Joey is an expository preacher who believes the most effective means of proclaiming the gospel with a view toward the salvation of sinners and the continued sanctification of believers is to faithfully preach the Word--verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book. It is his hope that Christ is exalted in the preaching ministry of Southside. In a day when pulpits are too often associated with bad stand-up comedy, story-time and psychobabble, Pastor Joey is unwaveringly committed to preaching Scripture alone.
Pastor Joey is a growing disciple personally struggling with the Scriptures in seeking the Spirit's guidance and empowerment in sanctification. He has a passion to see others increasing in the joy of growing in Christ in this way. Therefore, discipleship plays a key role in his ministry.
Pastor Joey has stated his understanding of his personal calling as follows:
To passionately make known the glory of God to all peoples by increasing in the joy of knowing Him through His word and leading His people to rediscover His word that they may thereby increase in the joy of knowing Him as they passionately make known His glory to all peoples.
